Wedding Pictures On A Budget

Do you want beautiful wedding pictures but don’t want to spend a fortune? In the paragraphs below I’ll tell you how to do it. Perhaps more importantly, I’ll tell you how NOT to do it and what things to watch out for.

There are countless ways to get great pictures for your wedding without spending a lot of money.

Perhaps the most obvious option is to have a friend or family help with the photography. This can be great, but it can also be a disaster. With the popularity of Photoshop and digital SLR cameras, sometimes it seems that everyone with a fancy camera suddenly thinks they’re a qualified professional. It isn’t true! Your aunt Betty may have a professional level DSLR but that doesn’t mean her pictures will be professional quality!

Unfortunately the same applies to some “professionals”. If you do choose to hire a professional for any part of your wedding photography make sure you have reviewed and compared pictures in their portfolio with those of other well known wedding photographers. Everyone is starting photography businesses these days. Some of those people just have fancy cameras like aunt Betty. (At least aunt Betty is free!)

So how DO you get great wedding pictures for a fraction of the cost? Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Get the “formal” pictures done in a studio a couple of days before the wedding. It’s usually cheaper than having a photographer come to the wedding.

2. Do your best with a TALENTED friend or family member. Just be sure to study up on the standard wedding poses and “picture moments” so you’ll have the pictures that you want when you’re done.

3. Leave disposable cameras on the tables at the reception. This is popular and a great way to get informal pictures of the event.

4. Have blank CDs ready in pre-addressed mailers, ready for people to take and load their digital images on from the wedding. You’d be surprised how many great photographs you can get this way.

We’ve covered a few ideas here of how to get great wedding pictures on a non-so-great budget. There are more choices than we can possibly cover in a single article, but hopefully this has given you a good starting point to get the wedding pictures you want at a price that you can afford.
